Abstract

This 1/2 day workshop emphasizes the one-on-one skills necessary to conduct productive coaching sessions which are necessary to improve the job performance of others.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this workshop learners will be able to:

  • Determine causes for current performance levels and appropriate methods for improving performance
  • Establish a comfortable coaching environment
  • Prepare for a coaching session Apply the basic skills of asking, listening and providing feedback
  • Apply the basic skills of asking, listening and providing feedback

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is for managers and supervisors who are accountable for improving the job performance of others.

PREREQUISITE

There is no prerequisite for this course.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Introduction

  • Overview of objectives, contents and expected outcomes of workshop
  • Conference discussion establishing what coaching is and what it is not
  • Characteristics of an effective coach

 

Interpersonal Communications
  • Review basic concepts of active listening.
  • Present guidelines for stress listening
  • Establish through a one-on-one exercise the critical importance of the skill of asking questions
  • Present guidelines and demonstrate techniques for providing feedback
  • Practice exercise in giving feedback

 

The Process of Coaching
  • Determining the causes of current performance levels (substandard or otherwise)
  • Getting ready – steps in the preparation for a coaching’s session
  • Preparing the environment
  • Conducting the session
  • Follow up activities
